At an early age, Angelo Figueroa, born in Perth Amboy,
New Jersey, 30 minutes from New York City, started to
wonder how do they put two records together with the
beats matching? Angelo started Djing with two stereos
using the volume control to fade one song to the
next and getting it on the beat. Determined to mix two
records together he bought a mixer, turntables, headphones,
and by the age of 14 he was the hottest Dj in Perth Amboy.
He started doing high schools dances and making
around 75 bucks a gig. In those days that was big money
for a DJ. All this was happening when Poor Billy’s was
one of the hottest night spots in NJ. After convincing Billy to
give the young kid a shot, Angelo became a regular DJ there
and it gave him the real flavor of what would become a life
long obsession. Soon after he landed the Fountain Casino
and many more clubs in the area.
In 1980, at the peek of his career Angelo decided to server
our country and joined the Navy.
While he was away BFiggy DJ and DJ Danny F kept the
tradition alive. It seems to by in our blood. After serving
his time, Angelo relocated to Jacksonville FL where
he currently lives.
Picking up were he left off but in Florida, DJ Angelo is still spinning,
promoting and producing. I have been bothering him to give me a mix
to post for quite awhile and here it is. This mix he laid out
he calls the La Quinta mix. Since this is the first mix for the blog, he
tried to give you a flavor that would give you an Idea of my broad
range of music that he has played thru out the years.
